SHERMAN GIRDY DIED AT LONG BEACH, CALIF., LAST WEEK Word was received Saturday by relatives here that Mrs. Sherman Girdy of Dayton had passed away at Long Beach, Calif. Mrs. Girdy had been in poor health for over three years and had suffered several strokes of paralysis. With her husband she had spent several winters in California in the hopes of benefiting her condition. The remains were shipped to Iowa and arrived in Boone Monday morning. Mr. Iles, Mrs. Deck and Miss Helen Girdy, who is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Girdy and who was visiting at the Deck home here, went to Boone Monday to meet the train bearing the remains of Mrs. Girdy. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Stratford Courier April 9, 1925 OBITUARY Girdy Bertha Iles was born on the old Iles homestead in the Bellville community, Yell township, Webster county, on August 7, 1873. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Iles, were pioneer settlers of this section of Iowa. She grew to young womanhood on the farm and on December 8, 1897, was united in marriage to Sherman Girdy. They moved first onto Mr. Girdy's farm northeast of Dayton and a few years ago moved onto his farm which is a short distance north of Dayton. One daughter, Miss Helen, was born to them. On the day of her death deceased was 51 years, 7 months, 20 days old. Besides her husband and daughter, she leaves one brother, Van Iles of Dayton and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Fuller and Mrs. Leona Deck, both of Stratford, to mourn her early passing, besides many other relatives and a large number of friends. She had been in very poor health for more than three years and with her husband, had spent several winters in California in the hopes that it would be beneficial to her condition. Funeral services were held from the M.E. church at Dayton Tuesday of last week and were conducted by Rev. Wilkinson. The remains were interred in Dayton cemetery.
