Leming in charge. Burial was in the Blue Hill cemetery. Bertha May Stewart, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Stewart, was born near Frankstown, Pa., on March 24, 1874, and passed away at her farm home at 7:45 on Thursday, July 31, 1947, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 7 days. Although in failing health, Mrs. Piel had not been bedfast and her death came as she was washing the breakfast dishes. She had lived near Blue Hill most of her life. On September 30, 1890, she was united in marriage to John H. Piel at Hastings, Nebraska. They lived on a farm northeast of Blue Hill for a few years after which they moved to the farm where she spent the remainder of her years. Mr. and Mrs. Piel celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1940. Besides her husband she is survived by seven children, fifteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, also five brothers and two sisters. Two sisters, one brother and two grandchildren preceded her in death. The children who survive are Mrs. Agnes Cotner of Red Cloud, Archie Piel of Bladen, John Piel Jr., Mrs. Grace Seeman, Darrel S. Piel, Mrs. Evelyn Penrose, and Ray Piel, all of Blue Hill. Her surviving brothers and sisters are James Stewart of Bladen, Wm. Stewart of Pueblo, Colo., Mrs. Minnie Foster of Hollywood, California, Mrs. Ellen Hatch of Boulder, Colorado, Mrs. Nellie Olson of Pasadena, California, Mrs. Alma Feis of Campbell, and Mrs. Katie Feis of Hastings. Pallbearers and flower bearers were all grandchildren of the deceased. The flower bearers were Darlene and Phyllis Seeman, Mrs. Eddie Meyer, Hazel Piel, Mrs. Keith Topham and Mrs. Catherine Derrick.
