Bertha was born on January 2, 1923, in Reliance, SD, to John and Sandra (Hieb) Rohrbauck. She lived on the family farm and attended school through the 8th grade. Read More	Bertha Sonnenschein, 88, Pierre, died Saturday, November 12, 2011, at St. Mary's Healthcare Center. Bertha was born on January 2, 1923, in Reliance, SD, to John and Sandra (Hieb) Rohrbauck. She lived on the family farm and attended school through the 8th grade. After leaving home she moved to Presho where she worked at Hutches Café. There she met the love of her life, Earl Sonnenschein. She and Earl were married on September 4, 1943, in Ft. Pierre, SD. She worked for a short time at the Capitol Cafe before they moved to the country to farm and ranch along the Cheyenne River. They moved to Pierre in 1950. After moving to Pierre, Bertha spent the next 18 years at home raising her four children and being a wonderful homemaker. In 1968 she decided to go to work in women's retail where she spent the next 41 years. She worked at Feinsteins, Beverly's, and Christopher Banks, and finally decided to retire when she was 83. She had a passion for women's clothing and loved helping other women look as classy as she did. After all the children were raised they moved back to Ft. Pierre in 1973. In August of 2008 Bertha moved to Lincoln Apartments. Her husband Earl passed away on October 4, 1993. Bertha loved to dance, play cards (especially bridge), and watch golf on TV. If Tiger Woods was playing she was glued to her TV and didn't like to be disturbed. Bertha had many friends in her life which kept her very busy. She was very grateful to have shared many wonderful times with her Birthday Club, Beverly Gals, VFW Buddies, and all the Lincoln Ladies. Bertha is survived by two sons and their wives, Clayton & Sharon Sonnenschein of Harrisburg, SD, Gaylord & Cathy Sonnenschein of Pierre; two daughters and their husbands, Diana & Syd Stevens of Palm Springs, CA, Judy & Gary Larson of Pierre; two sisters, Mary Frame of Chamberlain, Anna Martin of Kannapolis, NC; nine grandchildren,15 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Loretta Rohrbauck of Piedmont, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, and three sisters. Services will be Thursday, November 17, at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Scotty Philip Cemetery in Fort Pierre. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church and St. Mary's Hospice.
