Tete Patterson, and a lifelong resident of Pickens County, died at 4 a.m. Thursday March 29, 1962 in a Pickens hospital. She had been in declining health for five years, seriously ill about two days. Mrs. Patterson, a daughter of the late Irvin and Lucy Chapman Dodgens, had made her home in the Rice's Creek community for the past 33 years. She was a devoted member of the Rice's Creek Baptist Church and also of the Mother's Class of the Sunday School. In addition to her husband, of the home, she is survived by eight daughters, Mrs. Leola Leslie, Mrs. Lila Mae Bates, Mrs. Dorsey Messer and Mrs. Lucille Stewart of Liberty, Mrs. Thelma Stubbs and Mrs. Nancy Sons of Greenville, Mrs. Bonnie Lowery of Easley, Mrs. Verlin Ann Connelly of Pickens: three sons, Odell and Donald Patterson of Liberty, and Ray Patterson of Norris: one sister, Mrs. Dallie Gantt, of Pickens; two brothers, Morris Dodgens of Liberty, and Mancil Dodgens of Columbia; 39 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs Patterson were held from Rice's Creek Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Friday. The Rev. H. A. Newton, the Rev. Jesse Meece and the Rev. Cecil Holcombe conducted the services. Burial followed in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers: Lloyd Cooper, Rocoe Gantt, Roy Alken, Felix Rodgers Jr., Waco Turner and Ben Gantt. Honorary escort will be composed of the Ladies Bible Classes of the Rice's Creek and Red Hill' Baptist churches. The body is at the residence pending the hour of the services with Clayton - Dillard Funeral Home in charge.
