Interment was made in Oakwood Cemetery, near Stratford, Iowa. OBITUARY Bessie Jane Spurling, daughter of Garrett I. and Charity E. Spurling, was born September 7, 1880 at Monticello (Piatt County), Illinois. She passed away January 26, 1963 at the Jewell Nursing Home, Jewell, Iowa, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 19 days. She was baptized in the Methodist Church at Monticello, Illinois while a young girl. In 1895 at the age of 14 years she moved with her parents to a farm near Duncombe, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. She attended school at Monticello, Illinois and at Duncombe, Iowa. On November 15, 1911 she was united in marriage to Oscar Stoner of Stratford. They farmed in this community until 1950 when they retired and moved to Stratford. Mrs. Stoner was a faithful wife and mother with a real interest in her family and home. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son who died in infancy, one sister, Mina and two brothers, Edward and Harry. Mrs. Stoner is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Cleo Coomes of Webster City and Mrs. Helen Wahman of Stratford; two sons, Luvern Stoner of Stratford and Dale Stoner of Chandlers, Arizona; eight grandchildren; one brother, Walter Spurling of Stratford; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Florence Spurling of Stratford and Mrs. Lena Spurling of Ackley, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews. Dayton Review February 7, 1963 Services held for Mrs. Oscar Stooner, 82 Funeral services for Mrs. Oscar Stoner, 82, were held Monday, January 28 at the Hanson Funeral Home. She died Saturday at the Jewell Rest Home after a long illness. The services at 2 p.m. were conducted by Rev. Kirwin Goodwin. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Oscar; 2 sons, LuVerne of Stratford; Dale of Chandler, Arizona; 2 daughters, Mrs. Cleo Coomes of Webster City; Mrs. Helen Wahman of Stratford; 1 brother, Walter Spurling of Stratford and 8 grandsons.
