Description	:	Edward Ellsworth Spurling, son of Charity and Garrett Spurling, was born at Monticello, Ill., September 3, 1882, and passed away in the Hamilton county hospital at Webster City September 6, 1955, at the age of 73 years and 3 days. At the age of 12 he and his family moved to a farm west of Webster City, where he resided until his marriage to Florence Guthrie in Webster City March 15, 1905. Read More	Edward Ellsworth Spurling, son of Charity and Garrett Spurling, was born at Monticello, Ill., September 3, 1882, and passed away in the Hamilton county hospital at Webster City September 6, 1955, at the age of 73 years and 3 days. At the age of 12 he and his family moved to a farm west of Webster City, where he resided until his marriage to Florence Guthrie in Webster City March 15, 1905. To this union were born two children: Mrs. Carlos Shoberg (Allene) and Edward Spurling, Jr. In 1908 he moved to the vicinity of Stratford, where he resided until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Florence; his two children, Allene (Mrs. Carlos Shoberg) of Stratford, and Edward Jr., of Mason City; one grandson, Dennis Spurling; also one sister, Mrs. Oscar Stoner of Stratford, and two brothers, Walter Spurling of Stratford and Harry Spurling of Ackley. His main interests in life were his family and friends. His hobbies were hunting and fishing, gardening and flowers. He loved the out-of-doors and wild life in general. He will be missed by his many friends. The funeral was held in the Hanson funeral home Thursday, September 8, at 2 o'clock p.m., with the Rev. Otto S. Steele officiating. Two vocal selections were sung by Mrs. Otto Steele, "The Old Rugged Cross," and "The City Foursquare." She was accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Bell. The pallbearers were five nephews: LuVerne and Dale Stoner, Duane Wahman, Harold Runyon, Robert Pliley, and a friend, Reuben Naslund. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery.
