Wells, daughter of James and Addie Vroman Burchell, was born in Kearney County, October 12, 1889, and passed away at age 93 early Friday morning, June 24, 1983, at the Long Term Care Unit in Minden. She was the oldest of nine children. Bessie was united in marriage to Adrain C. Wells in 1907. To this union were born six daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Ava Mercer; two grandchildren; and four brothers. She was the oldest of nine children. Bessie was united in marriage to Adrain C. Wells in 1907. To this union were born six daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Ava Mercer; two grandchildren; and four brothers. She is survived by her five daughters, Muriel Harbert of Moorfield, Nebr., Dorothy Campeau, Memphis, Tenn., Wilma Childress, Big Bear Lake, Calif., Gladys Starr and Rowene Rasmussen of Minden; three sons-in-law: Art Rasmussen, Carl Starr and Frank Childress; nine grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers; other relatives and friends. Bessie was a kind and loving wife and mother, and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a long time member of the United Methodist Church. Services were held Monday morning, June 27, 1983, at the Layton Funeral Home chapel in Minden. Rev. Robert Frescoln officiated. Organist was Mrs. Vaughn Olson, and soloist, Arden Talbert. Casket bearers were Ron Wieese, Virgil Wommer, Dale Laizure, James Burchell, Donald Layton and Marshall Burchell. Interment was in the Minden Cemetery. Layton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
