Bessie's earliest memories were of their farm in Mountain Grove, where she had a loving mother and father, brother and 4 sisters. She doesn't remember how much school she had while there, because each time her mother became ill (probably having her sisters) her Dad would get her out of school to care for her and do the chores, being his shadow a lot which got her the nickname of "Tom" for tomboy from her Daddy. At 10 years old she remembered how hard it was to move from that farm were her little brothers grave was in Mountain Grove, but also how exciting with them going in covered wagons. After the land sold, her mother was to close to delivery to move just then, so they put a threeroom tent in her Grandmothers (Matilda Joy Lindholm Frisk) back yard until her sister was born, then about 2 weeks later leaving with her riding most of the way on a mule herding the livestock, to their new home at Little Wigwam on the Osage River. Another sister was born while they were there, but they lived there only about 2 years, then moved to the area of Proctor and got a new farm. Time there was great! As kids they had so much fun. She learned to fish and hunt. Her parents always made life fun for them, and they had picnics often, even if it was just in their own yard. She liked to learn things, so would catch a bird she didn't know and bring it to her Dad and he would tell her what it was, she said by always finding things and asking it wasn't long before she knew what every bird in the area was, as well as plants and trees. Bessie had wonderful memories of her and her siblings doing things that was quite dangerous to do, but was just fun for them, with out their parents knowing. Being farm kids they had to make their own games, like climbing young saplings and her brother chopping it down as they rode on it, them doing the same for him, only with the girls having to take turns chopping. Also sneaking the wash tubs and taking turns floating down the swollen creek after a heavy rain. Once when her brother was working in Kansas following the wheat harvest, he wrote for them to come and they did. With her dad working in the harvest and her doing the cooking for the men. She did not say what her age was at that time, but did say in her late teens she went to work at the Martin Hotel, with one of her sisters also going to work there. She worked there until she married. She met Ralph Comer thru her cousin Herb Bellamy. Ralph was 5 years younger, but they dated and after over a year decided to get married. They were married on January 22, 1927 in California, Missouri. Live was hard, they moved around a lot, with the first 4 of their children being born in different towns. Ralph always worked at odd jobs and so she began taking in laundry and ironing, and doing housekeeping to help support them. As time went on, Ralph was home less and less. Finally she and the children moved to the old homestead in Proctor. She said that her learning to hunt and fish as a child helped her to feed her children, as well as taking in laundry and ironing and doing housework. While there they had 3 more children, with them divorcing either before or right after the birth of their last child in 1941. Her brother then had to sell the old homestead in Proctor so she and the children all moved to Pleasant Hill, Missouri, for a couple of years, then moved to Barnett, Missouri with her son staying with his sister in Pleasant Hill to finish High School. After her children were raised and on their own, she moved to Versailles and got a job at a laundry, living in an apartment over a drug store. Later working at a restaurant for a while, and then going to work for the Tweedy Tent Factory in town, where she retired from at age 62. In 1982 she was in Barnett, Missouri, but at some point moved to Eldon, Missouri, probably near one of her children. Passing in 1989 at the age of 86. Her burial is in the Versailles Cemetery beside her brother and parents.
