Description	:	Betty Jean Strait, 74, a former lifetime resident of Ottumwa, Iowa, died on Saturday, June 25th, 2006 at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston, Iowa, of heart failure. Visitation will be Monday, June 27th from 5 to 8 pm at Reece's Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with funeral service on Tuesday, June 28th at 1:30 pm. Interment will be at Mount Mariah Cemetery north of Douds, Iowa. Born in Ollie, Iowa on December 21st, 1930 to Harold and Edna (Dysert) Frederick, Betty married Tom Montgomery in 1957 and they had two daughters, Linda and Valery. Betty married Claire Strait in 1961, and they had three children: Jean, Larry, and Joni. In 1984 she married Jim Taylor of Galesburg, Illinois, where she resided until November of 2004. At that time Betty decided to move to Winterset Care Center North in Winterset, Iowa, due to increased health care needs, and her desire to live closer to children and grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her father, Harold Frederick; husband, Claire Strait; step-father, Howard Barker; and brother, Donnie Frederick. She is survived by her husband, Jim Taylor, of Galesburg, Illinois; mother, Edna Barker, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister, Beverly Gates, of North Liberty, Iowa; four daughters: Linda Breaux of Raceland, Louisiana, Valery Jewell, of Mountain Home, Idaho, Jean Walker, of Winterset, Ia., and Joni Frederick, of Omaha, Nebraska; her son, Larry Strait, of Winterset, Ia.; eleven grand-children; and eleven great-grandchildren. Betty loved music, dancing, and caring for her home. She was an excellent cook. In recent years her greatest joy has been her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her re-discovery of painting.
