Description	:	Billy Raymond Zanol June 19, 1928-April 24, 2019 Bill Zanol was born June 19, 1928 in the old St. Anthony’s Hospital to Leonard and Margaret Elizabeth (Whitbeck) Zanol. Read More	Billy Raymond Zanol June 19, 1928-April 24, 2019 Bill Zanol was born June 19, 1928 in the old St. Anthony’s Hospital to Leonard and Margaret Elizabeth (Whitbeck) Zanol. He joined a sister, Elnor, and they were raised on the family orchard in Orondo, Washington. They attended the three-room Orondo Grade School and then went on to East Wenatchee Junior High and Wenatchee High School. Bill graduated from WHS in 1946 and was always proud that he had played second base for the first baseball team fielded after World War II. After graduation, Bill joined his father on the family ranch until he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed for some time in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Wenatchee and became reacquainted with and later married Jacquelyn Marie Short. They were married June 19, 1954 and then lived in the home that Bill himself built and where they raised their nine children: Mary Suzanne, Michael Edward, Joan Marie, John Martin, Therese Annette, Elizabeth Ann, Thomas Andrew, Andrew Lawrence and Anthony William. They were also blessed with nineteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Besides being an excellent father and farmer, Bill was always involved in his community. He helped form the Orondo Volunteer Fire Department, serving many years as Assistant Chief. He served on the Orondo School Board and was a lifetime member of the Orondo Grange. He helped form the group that built the television reflector, which served the local area. He also represented Orondo on the Peach Marketing Commission and the Growers Clearing House. Bill was forced to slow down as Parkinson’s disease took to its toll. After retiring and selling the orchard, he and Jackie moved to a new home in Wenatchee, where he died. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elnor and husband Carroll Reid, daughters Therese Hewitt, Mary Sue Zanol and Elizabeth Daniel, grandson David Steichen, and great-grandson John Paul Gulino. He is survived by his wife, Jackie, his children Michael Zanol, Joan Steichen, John (Jane) Zanol, Thomas (Angie Greene) Zanol, Andrew Zanol and Anthony Zanol, and nephews Gary, Terry and Bill Reid. All his family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved and cherished him and will miss him deeply. Holy Rosary will be said Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Chapel, 625 S. Elliott, Wenatchee, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A luncheon in Kuykendall Hall will follow, and burial at Orondo Community Cemetery will be at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Douglas County Fire District #4, in Orondo. Friends and family may visit Jones & Jones – Betts Funeral Home on Tuesay, April 30 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
