Daughter of Samuel John and Jane Elizabeth Cooper OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, March 12, 1964 BLANCHE CURTIS Blanche Elexa John Curtis, the daughter of Samuel John and Elizabeth Cooper John, was born July 14, 1880 on Muscatine Island, not far from Muscatine, Iowa. After being in failing health for more than a year, she entered the Lucas County Memorial Hospital on January 25, 1864 and passed away March 6, 1964, at the age of 83 years, seven months and 21 days. She came in early childhood to a farm in Lucas county with her parents, three brothers and two sisters, where she continued to live. On December 7, 1904 she was united in marriage to Clark E. Curtis in Chariton, Iowa, who survives. They made their home on a farm in Ottercreek township, where they spent more than 59 years together. To this union six children were born, two daughters and four sons. Emory James preceded her in death in 1938. She is survived by Cyril E. and wife, Lois of Chariton; Homer D. and wife, Helen of Cochran, Ga.; Gladys and husband, Robert Hedemann of Columbus Junction; William S. and wife Ruth, and Angie and husband Burdette Conrad of Lucas; eleven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Blanche will be remembered as a kind, loving wife, mother and friend, always ready to lend a helping hand to her family, neighbors, the school and church. She will be sadly missed. Services were held Sunday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Miley Chapel. The Rev. Dean Timm officiated. Interment was in the Graceland cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
