Son of William Noah Curtis and Mary Jane Marker OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, May 11, 1965 CLARK CURTIS Clark Ellsworth Curtis, the only son of William Noah Curtis and Mary Jane Marker Curtis, was born October 1, 1879, on a farm near Norwood in Ottercreek Township, Lucas County, Iowa. Being in failing health, he entered the Lucas County Memorial Hospital December 29, 1963 and passed away there May 1, 1965, at the age of 85 years and seven months. He spent his childhood years close to nature and with his two sisters, Blanche and Mae, he attended the local school and took part in the social activities of that age. On December 7, 1904 at Chariton, Ia., he was united in marriage to Blanche Elexa John. They made their home on a farm in Ottercreek Township, where they spent more than 59 years together. To this union six children were born, two daughters and four sons. His wife, Blanche and son, Emory James preceded him in death. He is survived by Cyril E. and wife Lois of Chariton, Homer D. and wife Helen of Cochran, Ga., Gladys and husband Robert Hedemann of Columbus Junction, William S. and wife Ruth and Angie and husband Burdette Conrad of Lucas. He is also survived by one sister, Mae and husband Milton Marker of Chariton, eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Clark will be remembered as one who enjoyed the simple wholesomeness of farm living. He loved the outdoors and all growing things. He was interested in modern progress and the improvement of rural life, such as better homes, schools, roads, telephone service and electricity. He served his community well, being president of the school board, superintendent of the Sunday school, serving on local telephone, cemetery, Triple A boards and community drives. His neighbors could count on him to lend a helping hand in time of need. He was a good provider for his family and continued to be interested in their activities and welfare. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Services were conducted at the Miley Chapel Tuesday, May 4, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Eldon MacCannon officiating. Interment was at the Graceland cemetery.
