During the Civil War, Braxton first served with the Army of General Sterling Price. He spent his 21st birthday on the battlefield at Wison Creek, Missouri. During the latter part of the war, he served with General Joe Shelby in the area around Luka and Corinth, Mississippi, where he contracted a terrible case of malaria and spent his last few da;;ors buying a horse (or a mule, we aren't sure which).to ride home when the war ended. We remember Grandma telling us about hiding in an old Indian cave while Grandpa was away at the war whenever the "bushwhackers" were about, which seems to have been much of the time. Braxton and Susan were the the parents of eleven children. Their oldest, a girl named Mary, died the year she was born. She applied: 1925, Caroll County. He died Oct 8, 1924. I wish to pay my respects to my Great Great Grandfather. Susan and Braxton's daughter Lona is my Great Grandmother. Lona married Benton Wood & had a daughter,Hazel. Hazel married Ervin D Baker of Deary Idaho. Their son, Allen Baker is my father.
