Mrs. Olof Wistrom, one of the pioneer settlers of this community, passed away at the family home in Swede Bend, Sunday evening, March 24, after an illness covering over a year and a half during which time she has been bedfast. She was passed 76 years of age at her death. The funeral services were held yesterday conducted by Rev. Cedarholm of Pilot Mound and the remains laid to rest in the Swede Bend cemetery. Stratford Courier April 4, 1918 Obituary Wistrom Brita Wistrom, born Johnson, in Skog socken, Hälsingland, Sweden, on March 11, 1841 died at the family home n Swede Bend, southwest of Stratford, March 24, 1918, aged 77 years, 13 days. She came to this country in 1867 and on Christmas Day, 1868 was united in marriage to Olof Wistrom at Des Moines. For eight years the couple lived at Des Moines and then moved onto a farm in Swede Bend where deceased passed to her reward and having lived continuously on the same farm for forty-two years. For nearly two years deceased has been ill and bed-ridden most of the time. Although she suffered considerable pain she endured it in silence and patience, trusting to her God, whom she realized was her personal Savior. She came to Iowa at a time when it was a wild unbroken prairie land of whose fertile acres very few had been touched with a plow. She lived through the privations of that day, raising her family under conditions now almost unknown and forgotten. Much of the history of this section she witnessed in the making and it is such pioneers as she that made Iowa what it is today. She leaves a husband, two daughters - Mrs. J.E. Berglund and Mrs. Harry Magnuson, several grand-children and many friends to mourn the passing of a patient, kind and good woman. The funeral services were held from the Swede Mission church Wednesday last in charge of Rev. Cedarholm and the remains laid to rest in the Swede Bend cemetery. The out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John Wistrom, Mrs. Henry Wistrom, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wistrom, Mrs. Ed Wistrom and Mrs. Selena, all of Des Moines.
