Read More	Stratford Courier December 12, 1918 Obituary Passing of A Pioneer Settler Olof Wistrom, an old and very highly respected pioneer settler of this locality, passed away at an early hour Sunday morning after an illness of but a few hours. The news of his death came as a distinct shock to the people of this community for hardly anyone knew of his illness. A few days before his death he had been out in the timber near his home chopping wood and was in usual good health. He was however, subject to heart trouble, and it was this which brought about his death. The evening before his death he was unusually jolly and talkative and it was thought he was in no danger but another attack during the early hours of the morning proved fatal. Olof Wistrom was one of the old residents of this locality. Honest and upright, he made friends every way he turned. Always jolly in the face of every adversity, always ready with a hearty greeting, his presence in this community will be missed more than words can tell. It is such men as he who stand for the upbuilding of a community and their worth is never known until they have gone. Deceased was born March 1, 1844 in Skog socken, Hälsingland, Sweden and passed to his reward December 8, 1918, aged 74 years, 9 months and 8 days. He came to America in July 1867 and lived for a few months at Galesburg, Illinois. Then he moved to the Swede Bend community living there for one year going from there to Des Moines in 1868. He was united in marriage there December 26, 1868 to Brita Jonson and eight years later moved to his farm in the Swede Bend community, living there continuously until his death. Three children — two daughters and one son — were born to this couple. The son died in infancy. [Note: The son, John Wistrom was born Nov. 8, 1871 in Polk County, Iowa and died Aug. 26, 1872.) The two daughters are Mrs. Harry Magnuson and Mrs. Emil Berglund, both of this community. The wife and mother died in April, 1917. One brother, Jonas Wistrom of Des Moines, also survives. Besides these relatives who are left to mourn the passing of this good man, there is a host of friends who are grieved at his death. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the Swedish Mission church of which deceased was a charter member as well as an official. Rev. Cedarbolm was in charge of the service and the remains were laid to rest in the Swede Bend cemetery.
