H. S. ALEXANDER Mrs. H. S. Alexander, who died Thursday at her home in Gresham, Ore., was born August 3, 1854, in Monrovia County, Indiana. Her maiden name was Burrilla Phillips and she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Phillips. She came to Emporia with her family in 1860, making the trip in covered wagons. She was married December 31, 1872, to Harry S. Alexander, in Emporia. Six children were born, four of whom survive. Early in their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander lived in Florence and Marion. Later they moved back to Emporia and moved here until 1919, when they moved to Gresham, Ore. Mr. Alexander died in 1920. Mrs. Alexander had been a member of the First Christian Church of Emporia for more than 50 years. She is survived by two sons, Raymond M. Alexander, Denver, Colo., and Roger W. Alexander, Wichita, and by two daughters, Mrs. Will Ott and Mrs. Leslie Walrad, both of Gresham, Ore. Funeral services were held at 5:30 o'clock Tuesday evening in Maplewood Cemetery. Rev. Claude C. Large, pastor of the First Christian Church, conducted the services. Pallbearers were H. Peach, C. A. Bishop, E. E. Anderson, A. H. Plumb, W. J. Reynolds and Harry Norton. Out-of-town persons here for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ott, Olathe; John Ott and Mrs. Mary Patch, Gardner; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Westbrook, Peabody; Mrs. W. H. Alexander, Mound City; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Alexander, Marion; Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Watson, Florence; Miss Betty Thorne, Gresham, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Alexander, Denver, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Alexander, Wichita; Mrs. George Griffith, Anaheim, Calif.; and Mrs. Gertrude Walrad, Gresham, Ore.
