Description	:	FISHER, BURTON—Burton Fisher, one of six children of Alexander and Gertrude Fisher, was born at Rushville, N. Y. June 30, 1867. He died at the veteran's hospital at Lincoln, Neb., May 13, 1938, aged 70 years, 10 months, and 13 days. He died at the veteran's hospital at Lincoln, Neb., May 13, 1938, aged 70 years, 10 months, and 13 days. When a boy of nine in 1867, his parents moved to Nebraska, settling on the homestead three miles north and two miles west of Geneva, where Burton spent practically the rest of his life, and where he was living at the time of his death. January 11, 1900, he was married to Miss Martha Meyer. This union was blessed with four sons, Deo, Fred, Kenneth and Charles. Charles died in August, 1933, from injuries received in a regrettable accident as he was attending to duties on the farm. The other sons, with their mother, remain to cherish his memory. When the Spanish-American War broke out, Mr. Fisher enlisted at Geneva in Company G, First Nebraska Regiment. He was made second lieutenant May 9, 1898, and saw active service with his regiment in the Philippines the ensuing year. Returning to the United States after the war, he was mustered out at San Francisco August 23, 1899. He was a good soldier, having taken part in a dozen engagements with the Filipinos, and was in the battle in which Colonel Stotsenberg was killed. April 20, 1899 he was promoted to the first lieutenancy, and later was awarded a Silver Cross for gallantry. He was not only a good soldier, but an efficient officer and looked well to the welfare of the men for whom he was responsible. It was soon after his return from the war that his marriage took place, he and Mrs. Fisher taking up their residence on the old homestead where they spent more than thirty-eight happy years together. Mr. Fisher was a devoted husband, a good father and a desirable friend and neighbor. In addition to his wife and three sons there remain two grandchildren, a brother, Henry Fisher of Geneva and several nieces and nephews, with other relatives and many friends. Mr. Fisher made a public confession of Christ, and with Mrs. Fisher united with the Geneva Methodist church August 15, 1937. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, May 16, by Rev. W. H. Shoaf. The ninety-first Psalm was read and prayer offered at the home at 2 o'clock and the service proper was held at the Geneva Methodist church at 2:30, the pastor speaking from the text, "He being dead, yet speaketh," Hebrews 11:4. Other scriptures read were Psalm 23 and selections from First Corinthians 15. Hon. Charles Smrha of Millingan took part in the service, speaking particularly of the soldier life of the deceased. The music was furnished by a quartet from the church choir, consisting of Mrs. H. A. Rosenau, Mrs. C. G. Hrubesky, Edgar Miller and Judge Howard Hamilton. The sons were "Going Down the Valley" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Mrs. F. M. Holtz was at the organ. The large concourse of people present and the many beautiful floral offerings spoke eloquently of the love and esteem in which Mr. Fisher was held. The pall bearers were W. J. Merrill, Art Smith, Dr. M. M. Akin, Charles Higginbotham, harry Hannes and Elwood Bender, comrades of Company g. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery, where the military ritual was observed, comrades of the deceased, members of the Lincoln Spanish-American War veterans camp participating.
