Description	:	Caleb was the son of Joseph Davis Pickett and his wife Minerva Jane Frazier. He married Clara T. Mills 15 Feb 1903 in Jefferson County, IA. They had a son who died in infancy, and a daughter Irene (Pickett) Vander Meer. Clara died while Irene was still an infant. Caleb married/2 Rachel Despain 11 Oct 1913 in IL. They had one daughter Violet May (Pickett) Burk. Caleb and Rachel divorced in 1923. Caleb later married Maud Finger about 1938. For some reason his obit calls him Charles S. "Caleb" Pickett. This is the only time I find him by any other name than Caleb or Sherman. There is a military tombstone for a Charles S. Pickett that is supposed to be Caleb's. It has no dates, so there is no way to know for certain whose it was. His name definitely was Caleb Sherman Pickett. He was listed as Caleb S. in the 1880, 1910 and 1930 Federal Censuses; as well as in the 1885 and 1925 IA State Censuses. In 1895 and 1900 he was shown as Sherman C. Pickett. In 1920 he was nowhere to be found. Caleb had a much younger brother named Charles. I can only guess that he joined the military using his brother's name for some reason, and that's how it came to be used for his obituary and tombstone. Exhaustive searches have never found verifiable birth or death records. If anyone has either one, I would appreciate knowing.
