Description	:	Calvin Beach, was born at Western Reserve, Ohio, on October 15, 1835, the youngest of eight children. His mother died when he was a small child, so the family moved to Iowa and later to Missouri. Here, at the start of the Civil War, Beach enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until the end of the long, weary conflict without injury. Read More	Calvin Beach, was born at Western Reserve, Ohio, on October 15, 1835, the youngest of eight children. His mother died when he was a small child, so the family moved to Iowa and later to Missouri. Here, at the start of the Civil War, Beach enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until the end of the long, weary conflict without injury. At the close of the Civil War, he came west with his brother, Elizur Beach. Four years later, Elizur returned to Missouri to get his family and the family of Calvin. Calvin and Margaret Ann Frazier were married on March 18, 1862. Their daughter, our mother, Ella, was born in Illinois (? all census state MO) in 1864. Calvin Beach crossed the plains three times, and he first came to Montana in a wagon train captained by his brother, Elizur. The Beach's had mule teams which traveled faster than the other wagons' slow oxen, but they did not dare leave them behind since they needed each other's protection in case of Indian raids. ...Calvin, was a prosperous rancher in the Prickly Pear Valley and also served as a Lewis and Clark County Commissioner. By 1885 when the Beach family had grown to ten children, the family met with disaster when three girls and two boys died within a very short time from the dreaded diphtheria (1885). Another boy died in 1889. Ella later told how cautious neighbors were about helping one another for fear of contracting the disease. Family members, with the help of teams and wagons, were required to bury their own. Surviving children of this family were Ella (Mrs. George W. Kinney), Amanda (Mrs. Peter Hilger), Clara (Mrs. Jim Keys), and David Beach. Calvin Beach died at College Hill near Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 24, 1899. by Lyle Baxter great grandson of Calvin Beach and George Washington Kinney.
