He had been in ill health the past year and seriously ill for a week. Funeral services will be held at the home in Birmingham Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. With Rev. H. C. Irvine in charge. Charlie Nelson was born November 30, 1849 near Mjolby, Sweden and came to America in 1863, when 14 years old, and settled in Glendale, Iowa. He had been a resident of Jefferson and Van Buren counties the past 82 years and was the oldest resident of Birmingham. He married Anna Carlson and to this union was born one son, Ernest, who resides in Kahoka, Missouri. He then married the second time to another Anna Carlson, on Aug. 3, 1886 and to this union eight children were born, all surviving with the exception of one. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. for 50 years. Surviving are his wife, Anna, 85,; five daughters ; Mrs. Lillian Davisson, at home; Mrs. Anna Dahl, Alma Estelle Terrell and Mrs. Ellen Nelson, all of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Emma Topping of Stockport; three sons, Ernest of Kahoka, Missouri, Carl O. Nelson of Keosauqua; and Walter of Fort Dodge. Ten grandchildren, one great grandchild and one niece. A daughter, Esther, preceded him in death on May 8, 1921, when killed in an auto accident. Obit.
