Read More	Stratford Courier June 17, 1943 Obituary Carl Lindquist Carl John Lindquist, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lindquist, was born on a farm east of Stratford Jan. 24, 1888 and died at the birthplace June 10, 1943 at the age of 55 years, 4 months, 17 days. He was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Stratford Lutheran church, being a member of that church all his life. During World War I he served his country in the A.E.F. in France about eighteen months. After his return he spent six months in the H.S.A. general hospital, Denver, Colo. He received his honorary military discharge in March 1920 and returned to his home here where he had been engaged in farming. He had been a member of the local post of the American Legion about twenty years. His activities were limited due to a nervous ailment of many years duration which made him feel unable to manage freely with others but he found his greatest happiness and contentment in the quietness of his home. He was very conscientious and his keen sense of right and wrong motivated his every act through years of affliction and during his recent illness. His enduring patience and gratitude endeared him to those who knew him best. On Feb. 1 he suffered a severe stroke. After several weeks of illness he realized the gravity of his condition and though hopeful of restoration of health he expressed his desire to be spared the hardship of the life of an invalid. He seemed to be making some progress toward recovery. However complications developed and Thursday morning he suffered a second stroke from which he did not regain consciousness but quietly passed on at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Hulda Lucas and one niece Ethelyne Johnson. Left to mourn are four sisters and two brothers, Anna, Edith and Emanuel Lindquist all of Stratford, Mrs. Amelia Johnson and Arthur Lindquist of Burley, Idaho, Mrs. Amanda Morgan of Tucson, Ariz., Also four nieces, three nephews and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C.S. Ericson at the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock preceded by a prayer service in the home. He spoke of the worth "Father I will that those with whom thou has given me be with me where I am, and see my glory" John 17:24. Marie and Velva Berglund, Lester Anderson and Axel Sandegren, accompanied by Mrs. C.S. Ericson sang "I Will Sing You a Song of This Beautiful Land," "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Rock of Ages." The casket covered with an American flag stood against a beautiful floral background. At the close of the burial service in the South Marion cemetery, Legionnaires M.C. Carlson and Albert Brunett folded the flag and the Rev. Mr. Ericson, on behalf of the United States government presented it to the family of the deceased. The casket bearers were Chester G. Carlson, Fred Swanson, Rudolph Gustafson, Anton Sealine, Fred Lindquist, Axel Olson. - Contributed.
