Read More	Many Friends Pay Final Tribute to Mrs. John Lutjen Relatives and friends assembled in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Tuesday, January 1 to attend funeral services for the late Mrs. John Lutjen, whose death brought messages of sympathy from many friends in the vicinity. The church services was preceded by a brief ritual at the home. The local pastor, the Rev. Theo Stephan, spoke to the group from verses of Job 16-20, and the former pastor of St. Paul's, the Rev. J. Schliepsiek, now of Hubbard, also gave a message of sympathy to the assembly. During the last rites the choir sang several anthems, under the direction of Prof. J. L. Koch. Pallbearers The casket bearers were Oscar Tietjen, John Stolte, E. Eckley, A. Haerther, E. Meyer and Adam Moeller, the interment being in the St. Paul's Cemetery. Mrs. O. Tietjen, Mrs. A. Haerther and Mrs. E. Eckley took charge of the many lovely floral rememberances and other expressions of sympathy which came to the family during the bereavement. Among those attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. John Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Toepfer of Fairmont, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Joerns, and Mrs. Orvil Johnson of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Joerns, Miss Eva Joerns, Eddie and Clarence Joerns, all of Council Bluffs, Iowa, as well as a great number from Boone, Stanhope, Story City and other surrounding communities. Life Sketch The departed Mrs. Caroline Clara Alma Lutjen was born to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Blaess (Mary Leininger), on the family homestead in Dodge Township, Boone County, October 27, 1892, and attained the age of 42 years, 3 months and 2 days. In early infancy she was brought to holy baptism to be made a child of God by the local pastor at that time, who is now the sainted Rev. W. Brandes. After she had been well grounded in the fundamental doctrines of the Holy scriptures, she was confirmed by the Rev. M. Vonderan on April 8, 1906. The memorial verse given her is recorded in Romans 8-38: "I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." The deceased lived in accordance with this encouraging statement which proved to be to her a beacon light in her last days. United in Marriage December 18, 1912, she was united in marriage to John Lutjen, the nuptial rites being performed by the Rev. O. Erbe in Boone, where her parents had retired. Five children were given to this union: Raymond, Margaret, Lester, Kenneth, one boy dying in infancy. Besides the immediate family, the late Mrs. Lutjen leaves to mourn her untimely departure, her aged parents in Boone, three sisters, Mrs. B. C. Joerns of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Harry Davis of Chicago, and Mrs. Roscoe Zenor of Nampo, Idaho. Others Surviving Three brothers also survive, Sam, Mike and Lewis Blaess, all of this locality, as well as a number of more distant relatives and a host of faithful friends, as the large gathering at the funeral services testified.
