Description	:	Carra Gourley Hyde, born on June 18, 1873 three miles north of Villisca died at 6:30 p.m. January 24, 1954 following an illness of a little more than one month. December 7, 1892, she was married to Elmer A. Together with her husband, Mrs. Hyde lived partially all her life in the Villisca community until 1922, when they moved to Red Oak to become caretaker and cook at the Oak Hill Country Club. They were there for 17 years until poor health forced them to give up that work. They then moved into Red Oak where they lived until Mr. Hyde’s death in February 1948. All the time of her passing, Mrs. Hyde, or “Aunt Carrie” as she was affectionately known, had lived tow years with her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Courtly. She became seriously ill December 20 and was taken to Rosary Hospital at Corning, where she underwent surgery. She was brought to the Schenck nursing home on January 7 where she died last Sunday evening. She leaves two brothers, Robert M. and Fletcher Gourley, eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild besides her son Frank, two daughters, Grace and Velma and her adopted daughter Wilma Jean. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Everrett H. Steats. The singing was by W. Anderson accompanied by Mrs. Frances Wheeler and in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Robert L. Gourley and MRs. Richard Anderson. Pall bearers were Ralph Walter, Floyd Robert, Willis and Marshall Gourley, and interment was beside the husband of the deceased in the Villisca Cemetery. Villisca Review.
