Description	:	OBITUARY **Handwritten: March 24, 1934 Mrs. John Maltbie Carrie Ava, daughter of John and Abigail Daughrity, was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, on December 3, 1868, and departed this life at the home of her sister, Mrs. H.E. White, in Washburn, Texas, February 23, 1934, at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 20 days. On April 19, 1887, she was united in marriage to John A. Maltbie. Read More	OBITUARY **Handwritten: March 24, 1934 Mrs. John Maltbie Carrie Ava, daughter of John and Abigail Daughrity, was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, on December 3, 1868, and departed this life at the home of her sister, Mrs. H.E. White, in Washburn, Texas, February 23, 1934, at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 20 days. On April 19, 1887, she was united in marriage to John A. Maltbie. To this union two children were born, one dying in infancy and Lona, who resides in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Maltbie preceded his wife in death by several years. She is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Abigail Daughrity, her daughter, Lona; her only sister, Mrs. H.E. White; and four brothers, J.L. Daughrity of Keokuk, Craig M. Daughrity of Des Moines and Paul C. Daughtrity of Keosauqua. One brother, Ed, preceded her in death. At an early age, Lawrence Daughrity, who was bereft of father and mother, was taken into the Maltbie home, where he received the love and care of his foster parents and to him the passing of Mrs. Maltbie is like a loss of his own mother. She united with the Methodist church in 1889 during the pastorate of C.V. Cowan and remained a faithful member until her death, when she joined the church triumphant and the throng of the redeemed. She was a member of Chapter I, P.E.O. sisterhood. She has been in failing health for a number of years, but her passing was very sudden and unexpected. She was a wonderful mother, and faithful to her home. She was kind and sympathetic and loved by all who knew her. Besides the near relatives, she is survived by nephews and nieces and a host of friends. + + + + + Funeral Services For Mrs. Maltbie Tuesday Feb. 27 Funeral services for Mrs. J.A. Maltbie, 65 years of age, who died Friday at the home of her sister, Mrs. H.E. White, Washburn, Tex., were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church. The Rev. M.E. Hayes was in charge. Death was attributed to a lingering illness although Mrs. Maltbie's passing was very sudden and unexpected. Mrs. Maltbie was well known here having been born in this city. She was united in marriage to John A. Maltbie, April 19, 1887. Mr. Maltbie, prior to his death several years ago, was well known in business circles in this section. Mrs. Maltbie united with the Methodist church in 1889 and was also a member of Chapter I, P.E.O. Surviving are her aged mother, Mrs. Abigail Daughrity; a daughter, Lona; a sister, Mrs. H.E. White; and four brothers, J.L. Daughrity of Keokuk, Craig M. Daughrity of Des Moines and Paul C. Daughrity of Keosauqua. Interment was made in the Purdom cemetery. Source: Van Buren Co.
