The second son in a family of four boys and two girls, his death is the first to break the ranks of the family of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Daughrity, whose mourning members blend their bitter tears with those of his four orphaned children, over the untimely loss of a loving son, brother and father, the days of whose years were cut short at 36 years, 9 months, and 6 days, the end coming July 17, 1913, at the Oakdale Sanitarium, near Iowa City. Even in his boyhood, Ed's business bent found expression in such enterprises as always yield fruitage to energetic and capable boys, and the proceeds of which gradually grew until at the age of twenty, he became a member of the firm of Daughrity Brothers which carried on a successful business in this city for a period of four years. During this period, in 1897, he was married to Miss Josie Casady of Cantril, and on the discontinuance of his relations to the firm here, he launched in business for himself at Cantril in which he continued five years. Following this Mr. Daughrity was in business at Pulaski a short time, from which he went to the farm where after two years of characteristic overwork, his health broke and he was compelled to abandon it for something less physically exacting. Moving back to Keosauqua, he eventually re-entered business in partnership with his father, and in a short time succeeded in building up a large and desirable grocery trade. Last fall his strength, unable longer to bear the burden placed upon it by his unflagging will, gave way; and the time since the first of last November has been occupied by a losing yet ever determined and hopeful battle between his dauntless spirit and that dread white plague, the name of which makes strong men shudder. In common with his fellow mortals, but in greater degree than most, Ed.'s was a life of battle during his latter years, and that against great physical odds; but he seemed incapable of showing the white feather. He might face defeat but retreat, never! (Handwritten: CONTINUED TOP OF NEXT CoL.) He was a member of the K.P. lodge at Cantril. In early childhood he united with the M.E. church. After his marriage, his wife being a member of the Christian church, his principle church attendance was with her, and after her death continued to worship where she had, though never formally uniting with that body, yet being until his failing health made it impossible, an interested and faithful attendant, especially of the men's Bible class. **Handwritten: EDMOND DAUGHRITY INTERMENT WAS IN PURDOM CEM.
