Bacon use the Nov. 7, 1869 date for their marriage. ------------------------ Lockridge Herald Friday May 20, 1910 Pg. 1 Col. 5 DEATHS Fairfield, May 19 - Mrs. Henry Bacon, one of the best known residents of this city, passed peacefully away at her home in the Wilson flat on the south side of the square yesterday afternoon at five o'clock. Mrs. Bacon had been ill for some time and her death was not unexpected by her large circle of friends. Mrs. Carrie Stuffell-Bacon (sic. Stoffel-Bacon) was borne (sic. born) in Douds-Leando June 20th, 1848, being the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Stuffell (sic. Stoffel), sturdy pioneer settlers of the then new village in Van Buren county. She grew to womanhood in the town of her birth and there was united in marriage to Henry Bacon on November 9th, 1869. Mr. and Mrs. Bacon continued to reside in Douds-Lendo (sic) after their marriage until 1885 when they moved to Fairfield where they have since lived. To them were born three daughters - Mrs. Charles G. Belding of Ely, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Shriner of this city and Mrs. Hal H. Brown of Keokuk who with their father are left to mourn the death of the mother. One sister Mrs. Henry Green of Douds-Leando also survives Mrs. Bacon as well as (little grandson Robert, son of Mrs. Hal Brown of Keokuk. During her life time Mrs. Bacon had enjoyed remarkable health and vigor and when three months ago she was stricken with Bright's disease her large circle of friends were shocked and many expressed the belief that she would be able to throw off the disease. Almost from the first her condition had been serious and only the most intimate friends and relatives were admitted to her room. Mrs. Bacon was one of the greatest readers on the present day subjects and was a woman of more than ordinary education. She had been for a number of years an active and untiring worker in George Strong Corps No. 19, W.R.C., of which organization she has long been a member. A short time before her death Mrs. Bacon confessed her faith in christianity and was received into full membership in the Christian church of this city. The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Christian church and will be conducted by Rev. G. W. Burch. The interment will be made in Evergreen cemetery. The last services will be in charge of George Strong Corps, W.R.C., who will attend the funeral in a body. Friends of the family who desire to may call at the home from nine to twelve Friday morning as the casket will not be opened at the church. ------------------------ Fairfield Ledger Wednesday May 25, 1910 Pg. 7 Col. 2 Death of Mrs. Bacon. Mrs. Henry S. Bacon died at her home in this city Wednesday evening after an illness of more than three months. Rev. G. W. Burch had charge of the funeral exercises Friday held in the Christian church. The Woman’s Relief corps, of which Mrs. Bacon had long been an active member, attended the service in a body. Mrs. Bacon’s maiden name was Carrie Frances Stoffel and she was born in Van Buren county June 20th, 1848. She grew to womanhood there and was married at Keosauqua, November 7th 1869. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bacon, all of whom survive the mother – Mrs. C. G. Belding of Ely, Mrs. Frank S. Shriner of this city and Mrs. H. H. Brown of Keokuk. The only member of her father’s family now living is Mrs. Henry Green of Douds-Leando. The family came to Fairfield in 1884 and has since made its home here. Mrs. Bacon was a woman of energy and spirit, her sympathies were easily enlisted in any good cause and she was a faithful and efficient worker in anything she undertook. She had many friends in this city who will regret her death and extend sympathy to the sorrowing family.
