She came to America in 1856 at the age of 9 years. Their children: Lena Rix Dierks, Emma, Henry, Bertha, Ida, Anna, Mattie, Lucy, Theodore, Henry, George Rix, and Dora Rix Harmsen. Catherina Rix, nie Tietjens, was born in Albersdorf-Herzogthum, Holstein Germany, March 30th, 1848, the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Hans Tietjens. She came to America in 1856 at the age of 9 years. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Germany.She was married to George Rix of DeWitt, Iowa in 1866, making their home at the West Six Mile House until 16 years ago when they moved to Lyons. To this union were born 12 children of whom 4 are living, namely: Mrs. Henry Dierks of Clinton, Iowa Theodore Rix of Miles, Iowa Mrs. John L. Harmsen of Andover, Iowa Henry Rix of DeWitt, Iowa. Besides these she leaves to mourn her loss 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.Her husband preceded her in death 9 years ago.Funeral will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter Mrs. Henry Dierks, 507 - 4th. Ave. South with burial in Dierks Cemetery.Rev. Geo W. Krueger of the Zion Lutheran Church will officiate.She died from chronic bronchitis.
