The 1850 Census taken in Fayette County, Illinois, indicates Catherine was 18-years old and living in the household of her older sister, Sarah "Sally" (Hines) Camron (F.A.G. #53688291), and her husband, Joseph Camron. The Census also indicates Catherine's future husband was living with his family nearby. On December 18, 1851, Catherine was united in marriage to Washington Cochran. Catherine and Washington were the parents of six children: • Sarah Ann (Cochran) Sewart (1852-1930) • Ala Isaiah Cochran (1854-1916) • Surilla Alice (Cochran) Brightop (1857-1906) • Silas Allen Cochran (1857-1858) - the twin brother of Surilla • John Frederick Cochran (1864-1868) The 1860 US Census indicates the Cochran family lived in Howard Township, Fayette County, Illinois. The Township name was changed to, "Avena" that same year. The 1870 Census indicates they lived in Saint Elmo - a small town in Avena Township, Fayette County. In 1871, Catherine and Washington moved to Adams Township in Harrison County, Missouri. The 1880 US Federal Census indicates Catherine's 101-year-old father, Barney Hines, was living in her home in Adams Township, Harrison County, Missouri at the time and that the birthplace of his father and mother was Wales, Great Britain. Unconfirmed family records suggest Barney died on June 13, 1882, at the age of 103 years, eight months and 15 days. In 1882, the Cochran family moved to Kansas where they lived in Concordia City and subsequently on a 160-acre homestead in Hollis. The 1900 U.S. Federal Census indicates Mrs. Cochran lived with Washington in a home on East 5th Street in Concordia, Kansas. It also indicates the birthplace of her father was, "at sea." In a handwritten account of her family history, Wilma (Griffin) Logan (Catherine's great-granddaughter), recalls being 12 years old when Catherine died and that she knew her well as an elderly lady. In addition to family visits, Wilma and her parents lived in Catherine's home one summer. Wilma described Catherine as a hard-working farmer's wife who had six children, raised all kinds of farm fouls, and raised a garden. She was a member of the United Brethren church in Concordia, Kansas. Obituary in the Concordia Blade-Empire, May 9, 1910: Mrs. Catherine Cochran died at the home of her son, A.I. Cochran, near Hollis yesterday afternoon at the advanced age of 78 years. The funeral will be held from the residence of A.I. Cochran on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Wright officiating. Mrs. Cochran lived in Kansas for 28 years and was a woman of estimable character who will be mourned by a large number of her friends. Mrs. Cochran leaves one son, A.I. Cochran and daughter, Mrs. F. Sewart.
