Carrington was born on April 30, 1841 at Benham, Indiana and passed away peacefully on February 29, 1924, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles R. Wallace. She was united in marriage to Samuel R. Grimes of Elrod, Indiana at the Carrington home on February 9, 1860. To this union was born seven daughters and two sons. one and one daughter passed away in infancy. Grimes of Elrod, Indiana at the Carrington home on February 9, 1860. To this union was born seven daughters and two sons. one and one daughter passed away in infancy. Two daughters, Mrs. Mary Waits and Mrs. Nora Walker died after reaching womanhood. Those left to mourn her passing are, one son and four daughters, Paul Grimes of San Francisco, California, Mrs. J.N. Connelly, Milan, Indiana, Mrs. J.N. Banks Olney Springs, Colorado, Mrs. C.R.Wallace and Mrs. T.L. Harper both of Vliets,Kansas nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Mrs. Grimes and her husband came to Kansas in February of 1885 and resided the first year with J.H. Walker. They then moved to the old Kenworthy farm where they lived one year. They decided to build a house on the southwest part of J.H. Walker’s farm, and after work was begun, T.S. Ewing bought the farm on which the town of Vliets now stands, and laid out a town site, naming it Ewingsport. They then decided to buy lots and the house the built was the first one in Vliets. Mrs. Grimes was a member of the Baptist Church when she was seven years of age, then transferring to the Methodist Church when she married Mr. Grimes. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Vliets on Monday, March 3,1924 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Garretson and Reverend Hamn officiating. Burial was in the Vermillion Cemetery, Vermillion, Kansas.
