According to Catherine's death record, her father was Jerry Hodge, and her mother's maiden name was Burris. I have not been able to find anything further on Catherine's parents. Catherine married Thomas M. Truitt on March 28, 1861, in Eureka, Woodford County, Illinois. Obituary from "Ottumwa Courier," October 17, 1913: Catherine Hodge was born in Spring Bay, Ill., March 26, 1848 and died at the home of her son Arthur in Ottumwa, October 12, 1913, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 16 days. She was married to Thomas Truitt March 28, 1861. They lived in Marshall and Woodford counties, in Illinois, until February 1908, when they came to Agency. Eight children were born to them, three of whom died in infancy. Those living are: Hattie B. Jones and Morgan L. Truitt of Agency, Owen I. Truitt of Elmwood, Ill.; Charles D. Truitt of Monticello, Ind., and Henry A. Truitt of Ottumwa. One sister also, Mrs. Celia Wier of Agency, survives her. Since the death of her husband February 7, 1909, she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Hattie Jones near Agency. She embraced Christianity forty-six years ago, and has since lived the Christian life, holding her membership in the Methodist Episcopal church. She brought her children up in this faith and always kept before them the highest ideals. It is due largely to this earnest persistent training for the right that they have all found a home in the church. According to her desires as expressed a short time ago, she was taken suddenly and without prolonged illness. Though in apparent health, a complication of ailments has kept her in more or less danger for some time. During her latter years especially, the spiritual life has appealed to her increasingly, and at various times she has expressed herself as being prepared for the end whenever it might come. Funeral services were held in the Agency Methodist church Wednesday October 15 at 10 a.m. The service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Hankins. Interment was made in the Agency cemetery. Note: According to the date that Catherine died and the age given of 71 years, 6 months and 16 days, her date of birth would have been March 26, 1842.
