I have transcribed Charles Dudley's obituary and shown it below; however, I do not believe that he was the son of Foster Truitt. When I first started working on this, there was a findagrave entry for Foster Truitt in this cemetery, with no dates of birth or death, or any further information. Findagrave member Jack Mcllrath, #46933259, kindly looked up information on Charles Dudley, his wife Minnie, and Foster at the Monticello Union Township Public Library, and the Riverview Cemetery's records also show that Charles Dudley was the son of Foster Truitt. Jack's research also found that, "Foster Truitt is not buried there. His name is indexed in the Riverview book (it refers me to page 54 where Charles and Minnie are listed) but only because he was listed as the father of Charles. There was no separate burial record for him." Since Foster Truitt is not buried in this cemetery, his memorial here has been deleted. I do believe that the parents of Charles, who usually went by his middle name of Dudley, were Thomas M. and Catherine Truitt for these reasons: I have research done by two different Truitt family members, who wrote down their information years ago while many of the older generation were still living. Both sets of research, done by totally different people, show that Charles Dudley was their son. When I first came across Dudley's memorial, there were no dates of birth or death shown, as the only information that Allison who created the memorial had was the name, transcribed from the White County Master Index. I found the obituary in the archived newspaper on-line, and the dates given were the same dates as in our family researchers' materials. Charles Dudley is listed with Thomas M. and Catherine in the "United States Census, 1880," and he is shown as their son. In this census, the family's name is shown as Truiett, and Charles' middle initial is shown as W., but I do believe this is him. In these obituaries, which may be read by clicking on the link to their memorials, this information is given: Thomas M. Truitt Feb. 1909 - Son listed as Chas. D. Truitt, Minonk, Illinois Catherine Truitt Oct. 1913 -Son listed as Charles D. Truitt, Monticello, Indiana Henry Arthur Truitt July 1927 - Brother listed as Dudley Truitt, Monticello, Indiana Hattie (Truitt) Jones May 1936 -Brother listed as Dudley Truitt, Monticello Morgan L. Truitt May 1952 - Brother listed as Charles K. Truitt, Monticello, Indiana While the errors in the initials of W. in the census record and K. in Morgan's obituary make this even more confusing, these errors occurred often and still do in these types of records, and Charles' middle initial of D. and the name of Dudley is used more than these errors, lending credibility to this information. Also, in the "History of Wapello County, Iowa, Volume II," published in 1914, by The S.J. Clarke Publishing Company, Chicago, there is an article on Morgan Truitt on Pages 485-486. The article gives information on his parents, and it states that Charles D. was one of their sons. This article may now be read on-line at: http://www.beforetime.net/iowagenealogy/ wapello/HistoryOfWapelloCo1914/F237.html I have spent hours searching on-line records for another Charles D., Charles Dudley, or Dudley Truitt who lived in Woodford County and Marshall County, Illinois, or Monticello, Indiana, during this time, but I have not been able to find another man. I have also tried to find information on Foster Truitt, but so far, I have not come up with anything. I do believe it's possible that Foster was his middle name, as I have seen several different people listed that way, but I have not found anything connecting anyone else with Charles Dudley. I have seen this happen before when so many years had passed since the time the parents left the area. Charles Dudley was the only one of Thomas and Catherine's children who did not move to Iowa with the family, and by the time he died, all of his siblings had already died, and there were no other descendants left in the area. If anyone has documentation showing that my findings are incorrect, please let me know. I do want this to be correct, and I am open to any other information. Obituary from the "Logansport Press," July 6, 1957: Charles Dudley Truitt, a well-known resident of the Monticello community, died Thursday morning at the Monticello Nursing Home. He had been in failing health for several years. Born June 12, 1870, in Woodford Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Truitt, he was married to Minnie M. Patton December 20, 1890, and she died in March 1954. The family had resided in White County since 1913. He was a member of the Monticello Nazarene Church. Surviving are nieces and nephews. The body is at the Smith and Aufenburg funeral home where friends may call. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the funeral home with the Rev. Carl Baker officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
