He was one of the five founders of the Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity at Illinois Wesleyan University. The top picture of Owen that I have posted is from "TKE Today: Centennial Celebration," Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Inc. Fall 1999: Vol. 91, No. 4. A page on the founders of the fraternity was included in this publication and was sent to me by Illinois Wesleyan University. It is used here with permission, and this information about Owen was given with his picture: Owen Ison Truitt was born at Spring Bay, Woodford County, Illinois, on November 20, 1868. His secondary education was also gained at the Wesleyan Academy where he graduated on June 19, 1902. After leaving school, he spent a year and a half as pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Tremont, Illinois, completing a pastorate of three years and three months, later resigning to become pastor of the English Congregation of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Rangoon, Burma. After seven years he returned to America. He served four pastorates, all in the Central Illinois Conference, as follows: Elmwood, 1912-16; Saunemin, 1916-1921; Momence, 1921-26, and Roseville, 1926-29. During the Roseville Pastorate occurred a car accident which caused his death on July 13, 1929. The second picture of Owen is from the book, "Descendants of Thomas M. Truitt," by Robert W. Butler II. The third picture is from a program that was prepared for the TEKE Founders 1924 Silver Jubilee Conclave. (Teke is how the members chose to phonetically "pronounce" TKE.) It was also sent to me by Illinois Wesleyan University and is used with permission. Owen is at the far right in the back row.
