Description	:	Mrs. Cecelia Deere Cooney, daughter of the late William and Barbara Deere, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 3, 1872 and passed away in Villisca May 29, 1953 following an illness of six years. She came with her parents in 1879, locating in Jasper County. After several years they moved to Montgomery County, settling on a farm east of Elliott. Read More	Mrs. Cecelia Deere Cooney, daughter of the late William and Barbara Deere, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 3, 1872 and passed away in Villisca May 29, 1953 following an illness of six years. She came with her parents in 1879, locating in Jasper County. After several years they moved to Montgomery County, settling on a farm east of Elliott. There she grew to womanhood, later attending school in Red Oak and teaching school in Montgomery County. She was married to John P. Cooney, who preceded her in death in 1930. She had spent all her married life in this community. Survive are their three children, Howard J. and Beatrice Cooney and Florence Boston, all of Villisca. Also four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, one brother, Louis Deere of Kennedy, Minnesota, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson of Elliott, and Mrs. Dora Crawford, Griswold, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Villisca at 9 o’clock, Monday morning, conducted by the deceased’s nephew, Rev. Father Gerold Deere, Osceola, assisted by her pastor, Rev. Joseph Schultz. Singing was by the church choir and the pall bearers were Ed Reavis, Elmo Day, Elmo Buffon, Max Boston, Vern Lewis, and Frank Himiller. Flower lades were Mrs. Vera Buffon and MRs. Marie Lewis and interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. She married John Patterson Cooney, on March 10, 1895 in Montgomery County, Iowa. Children, Florence, Beatrice, and Howard. She died in May 29 1953 at the Lewis Nursing Home in Villisca, Montgomery County, Iowa of bronchial pneumonia, senitity, S. D. Poore, M. D., and was buried June 1, 1953 in the Villisca Cemetery, Montgomery County, Iowa, Paurl R. Sutphen, undertaker.
