Danburg by Ramona Ufen, Lenore Ufen, Derla Simns, Phykis Losey, and Gertrude Joy Caroline Barber Danburg died on October 24, 1881 giving birth to her last child, John Carlton. John L. Danburg remarried Celia Pierce in 1882. Celia came from Stockholm, Sweden. She had been a sister to a Swedish neighbor of John's and agreed to come to America and marry John who was willing to pay for her passage to America. John then brought his family and a brother to Mitchell in Dakota Territory. In 1844 John filed on a homestead and tree claim in Buffalo County and moved his own family out that fall. The Danburgs lived there in Buffalo County for 12 years. In 1896 the family moved to Hand County where John farmed for 9 years. John and Celia Danburg had 10 children. Their children were: (grandchildren omitted) Caroline Danburg – born October 18, 1883 – married Henry A. Butts DeVerne Danburg – July 19, 188 – married Mary Nicholas who died 1937, DeVerne – then married Hilda. Mattie Danburg – born November 13, 188 married William Flint – died November 10, 1949 Eugene Culver Danburg – born November 2, 1888 – married Norma Shonbrun – died April 13, 1971 Anna Louise Danburg – born 1890 – died 1893 of diphtheria. Stella Danburg – born 1890 – died 1893 of diphtheria. Celia Danburg – born 1894 – married Ira Scovil Viola Danburg – born in 8195 – married Bill Scarf, the married Scottie Powers – died April 17, 1935 Elmer Danburg – born June 2, 1899 – married Florence Kelly Arthur Danburg – born August 20, 1900 – married Otta Clevenger – died January 1965 (Three paragraphs omitted) In 1905 the Danburg family moved to St. Lawrence where John lived for 36 years. His second wife, Celia Danburg, died in 1917. John Danburg then lived alone in St. Lawrence and died February 19, 1941 at the age of 96. (Did not finish paragraph.) John L. Danburg was a great lover of children, flowers and the stars and stripes. He had the distinction of holding the longest voting record known in Hand County having cast his first ballot for Lincoln's second term. He had voted in 19 presidential elections and voted a total of 77 times. At the time of his death, John had 46 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren, Both John and Celia Danburg are buried in the GAR Cemetery in Miller. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Iowa Marriage record - wife's name is Celia Pierce and her father is Pierd Swoven and her mother is Viola Martin.
