Description	:	BIOGRAPHY "Charles A. Loockerman was born in Caroline County. Md., the son of Richard H. and Mary Etta Loockerman. He married Martha Sterling (1873-1952), daughter of Cornelius W. Sterling and Mary Hundley. They had two children: Vesta and Lois. Mr. Loockerman was one of, if not the largest dealers in seafood in Crisfield, dealing in hard crabs, soft crabs, oysters, crab flakes and clams in the early 1900's. In 1919 he purchased the outfit and machinery of the Tawes & Gibson Packing Co. and began to can fruits and vegetables. He had his own fleet of vessels for procuring seafood. He also... Mr. Loockerman was one of, if not the largest dealers in seafood in Crisfield, dealing in hard crabs, soft crabs, oysters, crab flakes and clams in the early 1900's. In 1919 he purchased the outfit and machinery of the Tawes & Gibson Packing Co. and began to can fruits and vegetables. He had his own fleet of vessels for procuring seafood. He also operated a lime kiln and was a pioneer in that industry. He patented a crab meat can that was guaranteed to deliver crab meat in better condition than any in existence. Another enterprise in which he was a pioneer was a shell crushing plant which crushed oyster shells to be used in chicken feed and for agricultural purposes. In 1916 he built a large seafood packing house in the Hoptown section of Crisfield. He served as town commissioner in 1904, and president of the Crisfield Baseball Club in 1928.
