The Rev. Charles Shepard officiated with the McIntyre-Jacobsen Funeral Home in charge. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery. (Funeral details followed.) Mrs. Jennie Elizabeth Horn was born in Dendee, Scotland, April 1, 1869 and came to America with her parents that same year. She was united in marriage to Charles Sower in 1884. They have lived in this community all their lives. She was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and attended regular until ill health prevented. Preceding her in death were her husband and three daughters. Surviving are five daughters: Mrs. Lillian Lyions, Manteca, California; Mrs. Nora Jones, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Myrtle Nelson, Fort Calhoun, Nebraska; Mrs. Edna Martin and Mrs. Leatha Murphy, both of Wolbach; 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. People who took the children usually wanted them to earn their keep and more. My grandmother Jennie would bake bread and wash on the rub board all day when she was 12 years old. You can see why she didn't approve of laziness when she was grown. She was a very wise, thrifty & resourceful lady. -- and always a lady. She never allowed drinking or card playing in her home. Grandson Glen Martin lived with her during times of the year that his parents worked at the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Grand Island, Nebraska. He said she made the best custard pie. Note: The 1880 Nebraska census has Jennie with Henry and Cynthia Wells of Loup, Merrick County, Nebraska. Jennie and her siblings Mother (Margaret Horn) died of childbirth in the fall of 1879 as listed on the 1880 Mortality census for Howard County, Nebraska in the Spring Creek area. Marriage records of Howard County (microfilm at Nebraska State Historical Society): Book 1, Page 336 "....Mr. Charles Sowers of Howard Co. Neb aged 24 years, born at Ohio son of William Sowers, his mother's maiden name was Franey Craley and Miss Jennie Horn of Howard County, Neb aged 18 years born at Scotland daughter of John Horn, her mother's maiden name was unknown....." "Be it Remembered, that at Wm Sowers in said county, on the 3rd day of February 1884 Mr. Charles Sower and Miss Jennie Horn were duly joined in Marriage by me in presence of Wm Sower residing at Howard Co. Neb and John D. Haley residing at Greeley Co. Neb witnesses present at the ceremony. In witness whereof I have hereunto set in my hand this 3 day of February 1884 H.S. Seeley, J.P."
