COOPER CALLED Loup City lost a valuable and beloved citizen in the death of Mr. Cooper, a man who was without enemies, jovial, good natured and the faculty of having a smile on his face in the midst of adversity. His death was lamentable. He was in Loup City last Saturday as jovial as could be and on his way to Ashton to see his daughter, Marie, where he had been making his home temporarily, something apparently was wrong with his car, and he got out to fix it when a stroke of apoplexy stuck him. This was between Ashton and Schaupps. He did not come home and a search was made and found him in that condition. He was taken to Ashton where the end came shortly afterwards. The body was brought to Loup City Monday afternoon and taken to the home of Dr. and Mrs. A. S. Main and on Tuesday he was laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery, the funeral services being held from the Presbyterian church of which he was a member. Leslie Sweetland of Sheridan, Wyoming preaching the sermon being assisted by Rev. Meierhoff. Mr. Cooper had expressed his self [sic]in the years gone by that he wanted Rev. Sweetland to preach his funeral sermon and his wish was carried out. Mr. Cooper was in business here for many years. He was a member of the city council and also Mayor for two years. At the time of his death he was clerk of the Loup City camp M. W. A. and one of the lodges [sic] strongest workers. Mr. Cooper was also county assessor of this county four years. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Marie Polski of Ashton to mourn his death. The Sherman County Times - Nov 5 1926
