Charles Cameron Rausher, son of Henry and Sarah Rausher, was born Nov. 7, 1870 at Oquawka, Ill., and departed this life on Feb. 11, 1952, at Mary Lanning hospital (sic) in Hastings, Nebr., at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 4 days. His brothers, John and Ed, and sister, Mrs. Harve Williams, preceded him in death. With his parents and sister, Lottie, he came to Nuckolls county (sic) in October of 1874 to the Springer Galley farm where they lived until early in 1876. At that time they moved to the farm southeast of Nelson which has been his home ever since with the exception of the years from 1881 to 1889 when the family moved into Nelson. From 1889 until his death he was rarely absent from his farm home, the week he spent in the hospital being one of the few times and one of the longest. After the death of his parents he continued to make his home with his brother, Ed and family. There he worked hard and contributed all the fruits of his labor to the family larder, save only that necessary for his simplest needs. He greatly enjoyed children, especially those of his brother whose growing up he was privileged to be a part of. Cammy was to them a second Dad. He enjoyed telling them of pioneer days and the homelife of their grandparents living in a dugout. He lived through the hardeships and struggles of pioneer days and the intervening years without complaint. Although small in stature, he possessed a rugged constitution and until the last two months maintained that he had never been sick in his life. Cam, as he was called by his friends, received most of his schooling at the Brown school located near the present schoolhouse. He attended Sunday school and church at the Garfield schoolhouse for many years. He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in April of 1904. Conscious of his obligation to his fellowmen and to his community, he served as a director of the Farmers State Bank, for many years as a director of the Nuckolls County Agricultural Association, and from its founding until this year as a director of the Farmers' Union Oil Company. He will be missed by all who knew him; especially by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Eva Rausher, brother-in-law, Harve Williams, one nephew, five nieces, other relatives and friends.
