Will use the 1894 date for those reasons, pending any clarification. The July 2, 1922 date appears to be in error: the first mention of the death in the Fairfield Daily Ledger occurred on July 1, 1922 and referred to the death taking place the previous Thursday, which would be June 29, 1922. The birth record on file in Jefferson county uses "Clearmont" for the middle name. Other sources... Other sources had used "Clearmond". -------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Saturday July 1, 1922 JORDAN FUNERAL HERE TOMORROW Special Train From Ottumwa Will Bring the Party to Fairfield Fairfield residents were shocked to learn of the death of Charles C. JORDAN of Ottumwa, Iowa, Thursday evening. Mr. JORDAN was well known in this city as "Stormy" JORDAN and had made many friends here through his business relations as a salesman for the Emry Fruit Company. He was born in Fairfield, May 23, 1894 and his mother before her marriage was Miss Genevieve GOSSICK, a sister of Mrs. Zell BROWN of this city. The funeral services will be held at Ottumwa tomorrow afternoon under the auspices of the American Legion and the Ottumwa Lodge 247 B.P.O. Elks. The interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery of Fairfield and a special train will be run from Ottumwa over the Burlington to bring the funeral party, to arrive here at about three p.m. The Fairfield Elks and members of the American Legion will participate in the ceremonies at the grave. Music will be by the Cavalry Band of Ottumwa. Mr. JORDAN had been in poor health for several months and went to the hospital at Ottumwa May 2. Ten days ago he was removed to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. JORDAN of Ottumwa and a day or two later went to Excelsior Springs, Mo., to recuperate, being able to walk a little at the time. He was brought back to his home at midnight Wednesday. He was a member of the Ottumwa band when it was mustered into the service at the beginning of the war, but was discharged on account of physical disability. Later he served with a medical detachment of the 163 (sic. 168 ??) depot brigade at Camp Dodge. ---------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Monday July 3, 1922 MANY ATTENDED FUNERAL HERE Special Train Brought Large Delegation to Attend Jordan Rites Funeral services for Charles C. JORDAN, who died Thursday, were held yesterday afternoon at Ottumwa in charge of members of the Elks lodge and the American Legion. A special train then brought the funeral party of over one hundred and fifty people including the Ottumwa band, of which Mr. JORDAN was a member, to Fairfield. The party was met at the station by a large delegation and the body taken to Evergreen cemetery for burial. Services at the grave were in charge of Rev. Ramsey of the Congregational church at Ottumwa and Rev. R.H. Polly of this city and a last tribute was paid Mr. JORDAN by members of the Elks lodge and the American Legion.
