Read More	Charles C. Espy Death Old Soldier Passed Away and Funeral was Sunday at Main Station. The death of Charles C. Espy occurred Saturday morning about 6:30 at the home, 315 West Madison. He had been in poor health since the first of the year, suffering with heart trouble, asthma and nervousness. He leaves his wife and the following children: John and W.M. living north of Centerville; Rosie, wife of Tom Jones, of Walnut City; Mirtle, wife of Jesse Wilson, of Centerville; Ida, wife of Charles McKern, of Iconium; Anna, wife of Ben Caster, of Main Station; Charles Jr., of Centerville; two sons and two daughters died when small, the sons being one four years and the other seven months and the daughters but two or three weeks old. The deceased was born at Columbus, Ohio, May 30, 1838, and was almost 73 years old. He went to Indiana in his youth and there enlisted in the war in the 129th Indiana Infantry. (He served three years in the Civil War.) After returning from honorable service he was married to Miss Nancy Elizabeth Madison at Warsaw, Indiana in 1866. They resided in that state till most of their family had added to their home, and then migrated to Iowa about 1834. He located on a farm two miles south of Main Station. He lived there till about two years ago when he sought retirement by moving to Centerville. Mr. Espy was ever known as a good citizen and neighbor. He was a member of the (John R. Bashore) G.A.R. Post of Centerville and was always interested in the welfare of his army comrades. As the head of a large family he fulfilled his duties well in rearing them to lives of uprightness and usefulness. Besides the children, there are 31 grandchildren who mourn the loss of the grandfather they thot so much of. The funeral was held at the Methodist church at Main Station Sunday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Huff of Iconium and interment at the cemetery at Main. Note: a second obituary states that Charles C. Espy was 72 years, 10 months and 15 days old at the time of his death.
