Description	:	Charles Edward Manicke passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at his home in South Bend after a bout with cancer at the age of 80. He was born on March 6, 1917, in Pateros to Frank and Jessie Belle (Gebber) Manicke. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Noxon, Mont., until 1927, when they returned to Pateros. He graduated from Pateros High School in 1936. He entered the U.S. Army on June 11, 1942, and was discharged on May 13, 1946, with numerous medals including the Bronze Star. He was born on March 6, 1917, in Pateros to Frank and Jessie Belle (Gebber) Manicke. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Noxon, Mont., until 1927, when they returned to Pateros. He graduated from Pateros High School in 1936. He entered the U.S. Army on June 11, 1942, and was discharged on May 13, 1946, with numerous medals including the Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. Mr. Manicke was a self-employed truck driver and an apple grower most of his life. He also worked for the Department of Transportation, plowing snow in the winters for more than 15 years in Pateros. On March 26, 1957, he married Anna Eizabeth (Riggs) Willms (1920-2013) in Seattle, and they made their home in Pateros. They later moved up the Methow River and purchased a small orchard, which they sold 3 1/2 years ago, when they moved to South Bend to be closer to his son and grandchildren. He loved to fish and camp. Survivors include his wife, of the family home in South Bend; a son, Jack of Raymond; two brothers, Bob of Pateros and John of Wenatchee; three grandchildren, Krissie Manicke of San Diego, Calif., Jack Manicke II of Raymond and Michael Ennis of Rosburg; and two nieces, Judy Precht and Betty Lundell, both of Brewster. Arrangements are by Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
