Charles was born on October 22, 1934 in Junction City, LA to the late Ruby Marie Johnson McLelland and Clarence Frederick McLelland. Charles attended Junction City High School, from where he graduated in 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force, where he was stationed in San Antonio, TX, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tule, Greenland and finally Ft. Worth, TX, where he met the love of his life, Irene. Charles was born on October 22, 1934 in Junction City, LA to the late Ruby Marie Johnson McLelland and Clarence Frederick McLelland. Charles attended Junction City High School, from where he graduated in 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force, where he was stationed in San Antonio, TX, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tule, Greenland and finally Ft. Worth, TX, where he met the love of his life, Irene. They were married in 1956 before He was honorably discharged from active duty in December of 1957. After his discharge, Charles continued to work as a Heating Specialist at Carswell Air Force Base as a civilian for the next thirty years. He attended Saginaw Park Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, TX for many years, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, music minister and was an ordained deacon. After his retirement, He and Irene moved back to Junction City, where they built their home. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising many vegetables in his garden over the next thirty plus years. He attended Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church and was a strong Christian man. He loved the Lord and wanted more than anything to see his family follow God’s path in their lives. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, who will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene McLelland; one brother, Bill McLelland; one sister, Ola May McLelland; one grandson, Charles Justin Jackson McLelland and one great grandson, Noah McLelland. Survivors include; one son, Charles Ray McLelland and wife Gwenda of Crowley, TX; one daughter, Judy McLelland Shelton and husband Bill of Benbrook, TX; three granddaughters, Mindy Bridge and husband Matthew, Heather McLelland, and Jennifer McLelland Cardwell; five step grandchildren, Bric Shelton and wife Bridget and their daughter, Brynleigh, Lori Carter and husband Tommy and their children, James and Ella, Tony White and wife Tricia and their daughters, Elisabeth and Emily, Christy Ballard and husband Bobby and their son, Hayden , and Jarred White and his sons, Nolan and Tommy; six great grandchildren, Ansleigh McLelland, Carson Bridge, Decker Bridge, Dustin Montgomery, Jase Denton and Myleena Clifton; seven siblings, Margaret Acklen of Archibald, LA, Frank McLelland of Junction City, LA, Neal McLelland and wife Lorraine of Summerfield, LA, Jerry McLelland and wife Dora of Farmerville, LA, Betty Ann Simmons and husband Allen of Junction City, AR, Richard McLelland and wife Gwena of Spearsville, LA, and Clarence McLelland and wife Shana of Junction City, LA; also, a sister in law, Mable McLelland of Junction City, LA. Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm, followed by Funeral services at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church near Spearsville, LA with Bro. Rubin Weaver and Bro. Nick Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Scotland Cemetery in Junction City under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Junction City. Pallbearers will be; Bill McLelland, Chris McLelland, Mark McLelland, Eric McLelland, Jeff McLelland and Bubba Acklen. Honorary pallbearers will be; Allen Simmons and Alvin Kelly. Memorial may be made to Scotland Cemetery Fund.
