Description	:	Well known Charter Oak farmer, Charles Greene, 62, died Saturday in Kearney, Nebraska, from injuries he received in a car accident last Thursday. The accident also injured his wife, Delores and her brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Audrey Steffen, also of Charter Oak. Read More	Well known Charter Oak farmer, Charles Greene, 62, died Saturday in Kearney, Nebraska, from injuries he received in a car accident last Thursday. The accident also injured his wife, Delores and her brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Audrey Steffen, also of Charter Oak. The accident occurred on Thursday morning, nine miles east of Lexington, Nebraska, on Interstate 80, when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, lost control due to the icy roadway, slid across the median and hit the Greene vehicle. Delores Greene was treated and later released from Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. Charles Greene, Carroll and Audrey Steffen, were transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, where Charles Greene died on Saturday, March 4, 1989. Carroll Steffen remains in serious condition and his wife, Audrey Steffen, is in fair condition. Funeral services for Charles Greene were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. Pastor S.W. Holstein officiated. A prayer service for relatives will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Huebner Funeral Home, Charter Oak. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak. Charles Erwin Greene was born June 17, 1926 in Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Herman and Esther (Kock) Greene. He attended rural schools in the area and later worked on area farms. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He married Delores Maxine Steffen on January 17, 1954 in Charter Oak. The couple farmed in the Charter Oak and Ricketts areas. He was active in his church, the community and belonged to several agricultural organizations. He was well known for his collection of antiques, many of which he refurbished. Surviving include his wife; two sons, Kevin Greene of Ricketts and Richard Greene of St. Louis, MO; one daughter, Joyce Greene of Pocatello, ID; one grandchild; his mother, Esther Greene of Charter Oak; six sisters, Marie (Ervin) Kuhlmann of Charter Oak, Elaine Holten of Minneapolis, MN, Marceline (Dennis) Forbord of Benson, MN, Shirley (Jim) Christensen and Esther (Marvin) Martin, both of Menomonie, WI, and Karen Willhite of Gladstone, OR; and six brothers, Herbert Greene of Edwardsburg, MI, Kenneth Greene of Minneapolis, MN, Wayne Greene of Elkhart, IN, Walter Greene of Glenwood, MN, Loren Greene of Plano, TX, and Larry Greene of Ammandale, MN.
