Girdey was born at Dayton, Iowa April 4, 1876, and died of Tuberculosis at Des Moines, Iowa, Jan. 26, 1913. He resided at Dayton, Iowa, until seven years ago, when he moved to Lakefield, Minn. where he made his home for two years. Since then he has been a resident of Spirit Lake and vicinity. He was married Dec. 30, 1903 to Miss Emma Tedwell, who has been his faithful companion, and who survives him. About four months ago he went to Colorado in the hope that the change of climate might prove beneficial to his health. He appeared to gain strength for a time, but about four weeks ago he began to fail rapidly. Mrs. Girdey joined him in Colorado and accompanied him to Des Moines. He entered a private hospital where everything was done to make him as comfortable as possible. His remains were shipped to Dayton, Iowa for burial. Funeral services were held from the Grace M.E. Church Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 28th, at one o'clock. He was laid to rest in the Dayton Cemetery beside his father and mother who passed away several years ago. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn his loss, one brother, Sherman Girdey, Dayton, Iowa and three sisters, Mrs. A. Leonard, Dayton, Iowa, Mrs. Geo. Kinney, Lakefield, Minn., and Mrs. N. Kantenberger, Des Moines, Iowa. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kinney of Lakefield, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. N. Kantenberger and Mrs. Frank O'Conner, of Des Moines, Iowa, Mr. Fred Tedwell, Mrs. Lee Wallace and children of Dixon, Ill., A.J. Tedwell of Amboy, Ill., and Lew Wallace of Mendota, Ill. Mr. Girdey was an honest, kind and genial man, a conscientious and careful workman and will be missed in Spirit Lake where he was well known. He was a member of the Spirit Lake Camp of M.W.A. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
