Read More	Dayton Review Thursday, August 14, 1902 OBITUARY The sad news reached Dayton last Saturday morning that Mrs. Hannah Girdy north of town had passed away at her home. Two days before, she had been in town, and no one had heard of her sickness. She was taken sick on Friday afternoon, and died between five and six o'clock the following morning of a stroke of paralysis. Her death takes away another of the pioneer mothers of this county. Mrs. Girdy had done her share in the development of this region, and the early settlers remember her as a faithful helpmeet to her husband in building up their home from the raw prairies of early days. Her maiden name was Hannah Larson, and she was born in Sweden April 12, 1837, where her parents lived and died. In 1861, she came to this country, landing in Quebec, and coming from there to Madison, Wisconsin, where she lived until her marriage August 26, 1866, to Henry Girdy, a young veteran of the Civil War, who entered the old homestead north of town where both ended life's work. Mr. Girdy brought his bride to their western home, where the remaining years of their life were spent. To their union five children came, three daughters and two sons, all still living. About two years ago, Mr. Girdy preceded her to the great beyond, since when she has been cared for by her son Charles and her daughter Julia, who lived with her on the old home place. Mrs. Girdy was a lady of sturdy character, kindly in disposition, highly respected by all who knew her. Her funeral services were held Monday afternoon from Grace M. E. Chruch, her remains being laid to rest in Dayton cemetery beside those of her husband. Rev. C. J. Messenger of Fort Dodge, who conducted the funeral services of Mr. Girdy, preached her funeral sermon. A host of friends of the bereaved family sympathize with them in their hour of sorrow, yet they may rejoice that she died as she lived, a good Christian woman, a loving mother, and a faithful friend.
