McIntire was born March 19, 1909 in Fairfield, the son of David and Anna Despain McIntire. He was married to Clara Dommer of Ottumwa. On Sept. 24, 1946 he was married to Bessie Myers of Fairfield (sic. am entering her name as Bessie Myers McIntire; using "Myers" for the married name. It is possible that "Myers" was a previous married surname, however). Surviving are his wife and the following children: Carroll McIntire, Fairfield; Mrs. Shirley Hayes, Ottumwa; James and Mary McIntire at home. One sister, Mrs. Doyle Barnes, Fairfield, and the following brothers also survive: Ray, Fairfield; Clifford, Harley and James, all of Lancaster, Calif.; Leonard, Muscatine; Bennie, Moline, Ill.; and Leland, Rockford, Ill. One brother preceded him in death. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge.
