Charles J. Estes was born on March 22, 1923, in Atchison, Kan., the son of Sam and Minnie (Kaaz) Estes. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1941. C.J served in the U.S. Army Air Corp in World War II. He was a cattleman and auctioneer and co-owned and operated the Atchison County Auction Company for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison. C.J. served on the Board of Directors, Day School Committee, and Fellowship Committee at the church. He was a member of Atchison Hospital Board of Directors, American Legion Post No. 6, and V.F.W. Post No. 1175. He enjoyed traveling, raising cattle, and auctions. C.J. was married to Lois Marting on November 24, 1949, in St. Louis, Mo. Lois survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Dr. David C. Estes, San Antonio, Texas; four daughters: Ann Estes, Glen Dale, Ariz.; Kathy (Ed) Thomason, Topeka, Kan.; Barbara (Tom) Miller, St. Joseph; and Joan (Rod) Bellows, Overland Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. His parents; two brothers, Roy and Lloyd Estes; and three sisters, Helen Doll, Nettie Scholz, and Myrtle Estes, preceded him in death. St Joseph News PRess 4-15-2011
