Wagner, 82, Wolbach Pioneer - Charles Joseph Wagner entered this life, the son of John and Eleanora Wagner at Omaha, Nebraska, January 8, 1882 and died December 9, 1964, reaching the age of 82 years, 11 months and 1 day. The last three weeks of his life were spent in the Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island, Nebr. He came to the vicinity of Wolbach at the age of 8 years, traveling with his parents in a covered wagon. They found one frame house between Fullerton and Wolbach and settled a few miles from it. They settled on "the old Wagner homestead" presently occupied by the Alvin Barr family. They lived in their covered wagon for some time before their home was built. He was educated in the country school District No. 23. He was united in marriage to Tida Carlson at Wolbach. To this union 5 children were born. For the majority of his life he was active in farming in the Wolbach area. He also was a "thresher", threshing grain for 60 years, covering a wide territory. He was a member of the Royal Hilanders Lodge and was baptized into the Lutheran faith. He was a kind and considerate father, dearly loved by his children and grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister Katie and seven brothers, Otto, Henry, Fred, Will, Eddie, John and Gus. Left to mourn his departure are his wife Tida; three sons, Joe and Harold of Wolbach and Glen of Cushing; two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Barr and Mrs. Bessie Marco of Wolbach; one brother, Emmett of Wolbach; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and a host of friends.
