Lewis, 77, who died suddenly on December 14 in Aurora, were Friday morning in the chapel of the Higby Mortuary. Charles Lewis was born October 14, 1899 in Aurora. He was the son of George and Ellen McClay Lewis. He spent his childhood in York and Hamilton Counties. He attended York Junior Collge. On June 8, 1921, he was united in marriage to Grace Pillard in Aurora. They resided in Marquette where he served as postmaster for 12 years. Following a brief residence in Grand Island, they moved to Fullerton where he was the manager of the Fairmont Company for four years. The family moved to Kearney where he was employed by the Fairmont firm and for 15 of his 30 years in Kearney he served as the City Health Inspector. In 1971, they moved to Florida where they resided for three years before moving to Aurora to make their home. Mr. Lewis was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora and the Aurora Lions Club. He had been a member of Lions International for more than 35 years. He was a past district governor of Lions. Mr. Lewis was a long time member of the Rob Morris Lodge 46, AF&AF in Kearney. He was a life member of the Sanitarians. Survivors include his widow, Grace, two sons, Leland of Eustis, FL and Dan of Arlington, VA, a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Meyen of Springfield,VA; a brother, Roy Lewis of Spokane, WA; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Sawyer of Grand Island, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
