Description	:	Charles Petty One of Bentinck's oldest and best-known residents, Charles Petty, passed away late Sunday afternoon, Feb. 6, at his home in Bentinck township, in his eighty-eighth year. He had been in failing health for a couple of years but was bedfast only eight days in his last illness. Read More	Charles Petty One of Bentinck's oldest and best-known residents, Charles Petty, passed away late Sunday afternoon, Feb. 6, at his home in Bentinck township, in his eighty-eighth year. He had been in failing health for a couple of years but was bedfast only eight days in his last illness. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Petty and was born and lived all his life on the farm where he died. Sixty-one years ago he brought his bride, Jean Moore, to the homestead. They celebrated their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary in March, 1946, and Mrs. Petty died in March of the following year. The deceased was for many years a trustee of Hutton Hill School, which he attended when a boy. He was a member of Knox United Church. Surviving are one son and five daughters: John, on the homestead; Mrs. Robert G. Smith (Isabelle), Mount Forest; Mrs. Fred Smith (Margaret), Regina, Sask.; Marion and Agnes, in Toronto and Mrs. W.L. Duggan (Grace), Flint, Mich. Mr. Petty is the last of a family of five. Deceased are Thomas, Durham; William, Bentinck; Mrs. James Boulder (Mary) Elmwood; Mrs. Lyle Robson (Annie), Durham. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon. There was a short service at the home followed by a public service in the Kress Funeral Home on Bruce Street. Many old friends of the deceased were in attendance. Rev. A.W. March of Knox United Church conducted the service and gave an address in keeping with the sad occasion. The pall bearers were neighbors: Albert McRonald, Alfred Vollett, Herbert Vollett, Gordon Geddes, John McKenzie and George Bauer. Those sending floral tributes were: The Family; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith, Regina, Sask.; the Blyth, Lauder and Fulton families; Dr. and Mrs. Arthur A. Backus; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Geddes; Miss Anna Brown and Miss Marjorie Quinn, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Griffin, Flint, Mich.; the Fern Avenue School, Toronto; the Lewis School, Flint, Mich.; the Women's Association of Knox United Church. Temporary interment was in the Maplewood mausoleum. Among those present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and Dorothy, Mount Forest; Miss Marion Petty and Miss Agnes Petty, Toronto; Mrs. Walter Duggan, Flint, Mich.; Dr. and Mrs. Harold Mountain, Chatsworth; Mr. and Mrs. Dan Eccles and Kenneth, Mount Forest. from Durham ON Chronicle 10 Feb 1949
